Richard M Nixon Park and Nature Center in York, PA is an education based park facility situated in pristine forest lands. Upon a hill, adjacent to a field and creek, sits the interpretive nature center in need of reorganization and upgrades.
The existing renovated barn facility is a mishmash of forms, displays and information. We were asked to present design concepts that would reorganize the interior and announce the entry on an exterior via a new entry canopy.
The design concepts create formal entry ways on the exterior, option 1 with covered trellis and option 2 with a more open plaza space.
The interior space design is focused around a new orientation area for children, a new bookstore configuration and a labyrinthine Pennsylvania based display zone that weaves through the building.
